Compelling Online Learning with Integrated Mediasite Solutions
The UNC Cancer Network at University of North Carolina's Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center has been streaming and archiving telehealth professional lectures for several years, and Mediasite has been a key component of this effort. Lectures are held via video conferencing combined with WebEx. Moving forward, UNC Cancer Network plans to develop a robust oncology learning center integrating elements of Mediasite, Sakai, Salesforce, Poll Everywhere and more to provide state-wide education on cancer topics for professionals and the general public. In this session, Tim shares his experiences. Since he's also interested in learning from others' distance education experiences, Tim will facilitate an open group discussion following their session.
Tim Poe, Director of Telehealth, University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, Tim has over 24 years experience delivering technology in healthcare, educational, for-profit and state network settings across North Carolina. Prior to joining UNC, Tim served with VIF International Education, MCNC and Duke University, leading the development of shared technology infrastructure for the K-20 community.

Captions create a more inclusive learning environment by improving student comprehension and engagement and making materials accessible to a wide range of students. In this session, Serena shares NC State's approach to captioning in My Mediasite, including the school's captioning grant and NC State DELTA's (Distance Education and Learning Technology Applications) process of DIY captions using YouTube. Serena Reavis, Instructional Technology Specialist, North Carolina State University, Serena Reavis is an Instructional Technology Specialist with NC State's DELTA (Distance Education and Learning Technology Applications). She creates and delivers workshops for faculty and staff on a variety of instructional tools such as Moodle, Google and Blackboard Collaborate, and pedagogical strategies such as online course design and Universal Design for Learning. In addition, she is the department's accessibility contact and serves on the Accessibility Service Team and the Accessibility Working Group.

They'll demonstrate the effect different lighting equipment and techniques have on your video production. From an economical LED kit or compact fluorescent soft-box to a production-level Fresnel kit, you’ll learn first-hand how to light videos and events like a pro in both a semi-permanent studio setting and a temporary remote production.
Chris Richter, Producer/Director, City of Madison Information Technology Media Team, Chris started working for the City of Madison in 1989 for what was known as CitiCable 12. He got his foot in the door by working with studio lighting and remote productions. Over the years he has expanded into virtually all areas of production performed by the Madison City Channel or IT-Media. Originally from Milwaukee, Chris has moved around the state of Wisconsin while growing up, but has truly become a Madison resident and put down roots since going to college at the UW-Madison.

Teaching with Glass: Behind the Scenes of UConn's Lightboard Recording Room
Learn how the University of Connecticut has developed a new way to simply and effectively create content by building a Lightboard using Mediasite Desktop Recorder. The Lightboard is located in UConn's new recording room built from the design of Dr. Michael Peshkin at Northwestern University and John Mocko at the University of Florida. It allows faculty to write on glass while facing the camera, mixing traditional teaching styles with new technologies. Faculty seamlessly interact with video and images making for a more engaging learner experience. Faculty use the Lightboard for supplemental instruction, online courses and flipped classrooms. Keith and Karen cover the development of the Lightboard's infrastructure, how it integrates with Mediasite and student feedback.
Karen Skudlarek, Educational Technologist, University of Connecticut, Karen Skudlarek has worked in technology for over 20 years in the private and public sectors. She recently completed her Masters at the UConn Neag School of Education in Cognition, Instruction, and Learning Technology and is now an Educational Technologist at the University of Connecticut. At North Carolina State University he used his touch panel programming expertise to innovate classroom control, create a lecture capture system and interface for blind users, and streamline support for large numbers of technology-enhanced rooms. He has shared his design innovations with others at several conferences. Ron joined Sonic Foundry as a Sales Engineer and also contributes to the Advanced Integration Services team.

Using Mediasite for Your Online Programs: Best Practices & Lessons Learned
In 2013, Villanova's use of Mediasite as their video platform for online programs expanded dramatically with the launch of several new online degree programs. They now use Mediasite in several modalities including recording lectures in professional studios, empowering off-campus faculty to record lectures with Mediasite Desktop Recorder and delivering video within their LMS. Naturally, explosion in use impacts Villanova's Mediasite management and support practices.
